Welcome Kim Kelly AAFH Volleyball

Coach Kelly spent 13 seasons as the head volleyball coach at Carnegie Mellon University. During her tenure, she led the Tartans to four NCAA Championship appearances, two ECAC South Volleyball Championships with two runner-up finishes, and five top-three finishes in the conference (UAA). In 2018, the Tartans made it to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament, a program’s first, and two athletes were recognized as All-Americans. In 2017, Kelly and the Tartans started the year with a 16-0 record, had a 5-2 showing against nationally ranked opponents, and rose to a program best with a national ranking of 6, finishing the season nationally ranked at 15. At the conclusion of the season, she was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) North Region Coach of the Year, and four Tartans earned AllAmerican recognition with a fifth earning All-Region accolades. In 2016, She led the Tartans to a 14th national ranking with three seniors earning All-America Honorable Mention, and middle hitter, Jackie Gibbons, becoming Kelly’s second repeat All-American, and senior libero, Molly Higgins earned her second nod as ECAC Division III South Defensive Player of the Year. In 2015, the Tartans climbed into the national rankings for the first time since 2004. She had two players garner All-Region honors and one with All-America recognition. In 2014, the program had its first UAA Rookie of the Year award winner. Prior to Carnegie Mellon, Kelly spent 9 seasons as the head coach for Gettysburg College. She led the Bullets to a 250-82 record, captured eight Centennial Conference Championships, and eight NCAA Division III Tournament appearances. Before becoming the head coach, she was the assistant coach for the Bullets, and she was a 1992 graduate of Gettysburg College. She was regarded as one of the top setters to play for the bullets. She was credited with 2,079 assists, a program best upon her graduation. In 2016, she was inducted into Gettysburg’s Hall of Athletic Honor.

Kelly’s Coaching Philosophy

“My philosophy is to always have the athlete first in mind when I’m developing them. I want athletes to leave my program better people than when they came in. I want my athletes to have fun while playing a game that we are extremely passionate about.”

Welcome Samantha Kelly AAFH Volleyball

Samantha is the daughter of Coach Kelly. She played four seasons at Westminster College under the direction of Head Coach Tammy Swearingen. She was a four-year letter winner with the Titans. Her sophomore year she led the team in assists, and she was named All-PAC Honorable Mention and named to the PAC Academic Honor Roll. In her junior season, she finished first on the team in assists, and she garnered All-PAC First Team Honors, CoSida Academic All-District, and All-PAC Honor Roll. Her senior year saw some major success in her career as she led the PAC in assists and service aces, 1,008 and 58 respectively. She also garnered All-PAC First Team Honors, CoSida Academic All-District, and All-PAC Honor Roll at the conclusion of the season. She finished her career as 8th in assists and 17th in service aces in the Titan Record Books. She is attending Saint Vincent College for her Masters in Education with certification where she will also be the graduate assistant for the volleyball program.
